Board of Directors

Selected for their experience with aging issues and their commitment to social activism, the following people sit on the GWAAR Board of Directors:

Larry Jepsen, (Chairperson) Osceola: Larry currently serves as chair of the ADRC of the Northwest, Polk, Burnett, and the St. Croix Band of Chippewa Tribes and has been serving on the GWAAR Board for a year. In addition, he has served as the chair of the Human Services Board of Polk County, the chairman of the County Board of Supervisors, as well as chair of many standing committees. He is involved in several state and regional committees including the WCA steering committee on environment and land use, The WCA Capital Ambassadors Program.

He is also involved with Wisconsin Workforce Development as the county representitive on the County Board Consortium and as vice-chair of Westcap, a community action program and vice-chair of his regional 8-county motorized trail advisory council.

James Clark, (Vice-Chairperson) Stevens Point: Jim is a retired educator and also served on the Portage County Board of Supervisors for 30 years. He is currently on the board of directors of Community Care of Central Wisconsin and five Community Action Program Support county boards.

Erwin Teichmiller, Arbor Vitae (Treasurer/Secretary): Married to Nancy for 53 years, Erv has three sons who are all married and seven grandchildren ages 7-18. He has been a Supervisor on Vilas County Board for five terms. He is also Chair of the newly-formed Oneida-Vilas Transit Commission.

Miki Bix, Medford: Miki has served on the Medford City Council, the Taylor County Board, and the Taylor Commission on Aging. While on the county board, she served on the human services board, the finance committee, the personnel committee, and many others. She is currently on the board of directors of the Aging and Disability Resource Center of the Northwoods and serves as the secretary.

Lane Delaney, Ferryville: Lane has been a nurse for 25 years and has served over 8 years as a member of the ADRC of Eagle Country governance board. She has had 36 years' experience with the care of medically-fragile, developmental- and physically-handicapped adults, and elderly. Lane is currently a charge nurse at Thornton Manor Skilled Nursing Facility in Lansing, Iowa.

Herbert Hanson, Brooklyn: Herb has 49 years of public service that include over a score and another decade in a successful law enforcement career and 10 years on his local town board and moving toward 2 decades on his county board; with stops and assignments on county and regional ADRC; AAA (former); human services; county nursing home chairperson; WCA Human Services Steering; WACH board; GWAAR Advisory Council; and Genesis Housing Board for seniors and the disabled.

Wesley Martin, Jr., Green Bay: Wes is our Wisconsin tribal representative and is presently the chairperson for the Oneida Nation Commission on Aging and president of the Great Lakes Native American Elder Association and enrolled tribal member of the Oneida Nation.

Mary Pierce, Eau Claire: Mary serves on the ADRC Board for Eau Claire County and chairs the subcommittee on Senior Americans Act Programming. Mary is an author and speaker humorist with degrees in education and business and a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She works in Eau Claire as a psychotherapist with particular interest in supporting family caregivers. She and her husband share six children, eight grandchildren, and a West Highland “terrorist” named Zoey.

Herschel Ryales, Kenosha: Herschel currently serves as Chairman Commissioner on Aging Kenosha County, Board of Directors Kenosha Area Family and Aging Services, and formerly served three years as Advisory Council Member of GWAAR. Herschel is a sustaining member of Title 45 Senior Corps Kenosha RSVP; Post Adjutant and Color Guard, American Legion Paul Herrick Post 21; Local Board Member, U.S. Selective Service System Region 1 Wisconsin Area 005 Board Member 002; President, SE WI Chapter National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association; and Board Member, Senior Action Council of Kenosha County.

Va Thao, Onalaska: Va is a wife, mother, daughter-in-law, and social worker. She was with La Crosse County Aging Unit for 8 years working with caregivers, older adults, and Hmong elders. She now has transitioned her role as a medical social worker at Gundersen Health System.
